Help run a sport

Keep involved, contributing and active. Use your expertise – sport knowledge, organisational skills, people skills – to help make sport happen.

Volunteers play an extremely important role in any sport. Without volunteers giving up their time, most sporting competitions would be unable to function. Referees, line judges, club secretaries, fundraisers, team managers - all make sport possible.

Find a school or club

Find a club or school that needs volunteers by contacting your local regional sports trust or contact a sport’s national governing body and you’ll be able to find the local contacts for that sport.

Lotto Sport Makers

Every year over 750,000 volunteers contribute over 50 million voluntary hours to sport in New Zealand.

Sport NZ has partnered with Lotto NZ to recognise and reward their contribution.

We call them Sport Makers, because they make sport happen.

Check Lotto New Zealand and find out how to thank volunteers.

  • VolunteerNet is a free, online interactive tool connecting people with events throughout New Zealand, providing resources, tools and advice for both volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations that coordinate events.
  • New Zealand Trust for Conservation Volunteers provides environmental volunteering opportunities for those interested looking for outdoor activities.
