Groups and organisations applying should be:
• an incorporated society
• a registered charitable trust
• a body (or club) controlled by an association of persons under an adopted constitution and rules with audited accounts and an annual report.

The capital of the Trust Fund came from the sale of shares in the Westland Savings Bank in 1989 Name changed from Westland Bank Community Trust to West Coast Community Trust in September 1993


To consider applications for funding of charitable, cultural philanthropic, recreational and other purposes beneficial to the community principally in the Buller, Grey and Westland districts.

Projects funded

So that grants reach as many people as possible, the Trust donates under six broad categories:
• education;
• welfare/social;
• health;
• art & culture;
• sport & recreation
• youth

Groups and organisations performing a community service by:
• contribution to community well-being
• promoting education and learning
• offering activities and services for the benefit of the community
• giving time and resources to alleviate social problems.

Excluded projects

Projects that are not eligible include:
• endowments or a capital fund
• completed or retrospective projects
• commercial organisations or groups operating for private profit
• projects which the Trustees consider are the primary responsibility of local or central government.

Excluded activities

The Trust will generally NOT contribute to:
• promotion or benefit of an individual
• salaries, wages
• overseas travel
• motor vehicles
• travel costs - exceptions can be made in special circumstances where the impact of that travel will be of major benefit to the region.

Information required with your application

• audited accounts
• background information on the applicant or group
• how much funding wanted, how much in hand, how shortfall met.

Decision makers

Trust Board.

Decision time

Within 4-6 weeks after closing date.
Grants are considered at the monthly meetings in May and November.

How notified

Letter sent with payment of the grant/donation.

How paid

Entire payment made after grant approved.

Conditions of acceptance

The organisation must use the grant for the purpose for which it has applied and be spent within that financial year. If an extension is required, written permission must be obtained from the trust.

Trust grants should be acknowledged as a separate item in your organisation's annual accounts.

Other information

Funds available amount based on previous financial statement. The Trust will consider any project which is beneficial to the community
Trustees are appointed by Minister of Finance and do not represent any organisation
Upper limit of $5000 for normal grant, $15000 for regional grant, $15000 for district grant.
No funding is available for individuals
Funds can be used for overseas travel only in exceptional circumstances where it will be of major benefit to the area
