Thames-Coromandel, Hauraki, Matamata-Piako, Waipa, Waikato, South Waikato, Waitomo, Otorohanga, Ruapehu and Hamilton City.

The Trust acknowledges that this area includes much of the lands of Tainui waka, and thus the people of Waikato, Raukawa, Hauraki and Maniapoto.


Most groups we fund have a legal status such as charitable trust or incorporated society. However, we fund small amounts for groups who don't have a legal status.

Trust Waikato was established by government statute in 1988 to hold the shares of Trust Bank Waikato.


Trust Waikato's funding supports organisations and projects that focus on welfare, sport, recreation, youth, art, culture and the environment.

Projects funded

We support projects, programmes and organisations which contribute to the well-being of communities. We fund groups whose work may involve:
• arts
• culture
• education
• environmental initiatives
• preservation of our history
• recreational activities
• social Services
• sports
• youth

Excluded projects

• commercial organisations
• endowments
• loan repayments or other debt instrument repayments
• religious ministry
• completed projects
• fundraising
• prizes and trophies
• individuals 
• sports uniforms

How to apply

First Time applicants
First time applicants need to complete this eligibility quiz here, then apply for a new login and password on the Grantee Portal here

Returning applicants
Use your existing login and password to apply for funding in the Grantee Portal here.
All applications must be submitted online by 4.30pm on the closing date of the grants round.

Information required with your application

• a detailed proposal, budget and timeframe for project
• how much funding wanted, how much in hand, how shortfall met

With your online grant application you’ll need to provide copies of your group’s:
• Annual accounts
• Chairperson's report
• Bank statements
• Bank deposit slip
Feasibility study, quote or business plan (if applicable).

Donations made in early May, September and December.

How notified

A letter to contact person when funding approved/declined.

How paid

By direct credit to group's bank account.
