It is preferred that the organisations are incorporated societies or trusts. However, applications from individuals and commercial organisations will be considered.
Applicants must contribute at least 50% of the cost of the project for which they are applying

It is the intention of the Dunedin City Council to create a positive and encouraging environment for events in Dunedin and ensure that Council event funds are allocated by means of a fair and transparent process, based on clearly defined criteria.

Projects funded

Community Events:
• Must be staged within the boundaries of Dunedin City
• Builds a sense of community
• Responds to an identified community need
• Increases the range and diversity of events held in Dunedin

Commercial Events:
• Enhances the city's unique identity
• Responds to an identified economic development need
• Increases the range and diversity of events held in Dunedin
• Contributes to the economic development of the city and attracts visitors to Dunedin
• Attracts national/international media coverage which promotes Dunedin positively.

Activities funded

Community Events:
• Equipment Hire, Sets and Costumes, Venue Hire, Performer fees and production personnel costs, publicity and promotion activities.
Commercial Events:
• Equipment Hire, Sets and Costumes, Performer fees and personnel costs, publicity and promotional activities, national and international sporting events, proportion of over-all event costs.

Excluded activities

• Religious or political fundraising purpose
• Sporting tournaments
• General salaries, rents or other overhead costs except as a proportion of the total project costs
• Travel for events, meetings or conference attendance
• Maintenance or development of facilities
• Catering
• Prize money
• Servicing of debts or event costs incurred prior to funding allocation
• Research

How to apply

Events Grants Application

The deadlines for all schemes are the last working Fridays in March and September; application forms for these will not be available on this web site till early March and September respectively.

Information required with your application

• present a comprehensive event concept
• present a realistic and fully itemised budget
• demonstrate the skills and experience to deliver the event successfully

Conditions of acceptance

All applicants who receive event funding are required to demonstrate accountability for the grant received within twelve months of completion of the event. This accountability is to include an event evaluation which provides details of:
• numbers attending/participating in the event
• an indication of the satisfaction level of those who attended
• copies of media coverage
• proof of expenditure, including a full set of income/expenditure accounts. Not providing the accountability evaluation within the time-frame may impact on future eligibility for funding support.
