Eligibility

Open to rural sports clubs and rural school teams in the Gore District. The fund is for young people aged between five and 19 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions. The fund is not available travelling to regional or national events.

History

Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ) is the new name for the government organisation responsible for sport and recreation (formerly SPARC).

The Rural Travel Fund has been developed in response to concerns raised by territorial authorities about the lack of participation in sport by young people living in rural communities. Geographical isolation, urban drift, lack of employment and training opportunities and access to mainstream funding were identified as barriers to sport participation.

Objectives

The Rural Travel Fund is designed to subsidise travel for junior teams participating in local sport competitions.

Projects funded

Sport and Recreation. Travel to sports competitions for people aged 5-19 years.

Excluded projects

Travel to Regional or National events.

Activities funded

Transport expenses to local sporting events.

How to apply

There are two funding rounds per year usually around February and August. Please check with the Council for closing dates.

Applications must be made on an application form, available from the Fund Administrator
and must include the following:
• A balance sheet from your organisation (ie. financial statement)
• A deposit slip (in case your application is approved)
• Evidence of endorsement from your local affiliated club/school (if required)

• organisation details
• contact names
• a balance sheet from your organisation (ie financial statement or audited accounts)
• a bank generated deposit form
• evidence of your endorsement from your local affiliated club/ school (if required)
• who else has been asked, has given or is giving funds
• GST number if registered on application form.

How notified

A letter to contact person when funding approved / declined.

How paid

A cheque or direct credit for the approved amount.

Conditions of acceptance

Sport NZ requires organisations who receive funding under this scheme to return an accountability form to the appropriate territorial authority showing proof of purchase made within that period and attach any receipts.
