South Wairarapa.


The Rural Travel Fund is open to South Wairarapa sports clubs and school teams with young people aged between 5 and 19 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.

Your school (or club) is eligible for the grant if they are based in the region and meet one of the following definitions:
• a school club team participating in local sport competition in weekends, that excludes inter school and intra school competitions played during school time; and/or
• a sports club team participating in organised sport competition through club membership outside of school time.

The South Wairarapa District Council has approximately $9,000, provided by Sport NZ, to give to local school or sports club teams in the South Wairarapa who have young people aged between 5-19 years that require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.


The Rural Travel Fund is designed to help subsidise travel for junior sports teams participating in local competitions. This is an interim measure until a rural participation strategy is fully developed and implemented.

• funding will not be provided for the purpose of travel to regional or national events.
• funding will not be provided to cover costs associated with payment of coaches
or officials or reimbursement of their expenses(including travel costs).
• if you have previously received a grant and have not submitted an accountability form you may be excluded from receiving funding.

Conditions of acceptance

Sport NZ requires clubs and schools that receive funding to return an accountability form. Clubs and schools need to attach any receipts to the accountability form. Any unspent funds must be returned to SWDC. GST registered clubs and schools which have been successful in receiving a grant need to provide a tax invoice to SWDC before the grant will be paid.
