History

Our Local Grants Programme aims to provide contestable and discretionary community grants to local communities.

Objectives

Our Local Grants Programme aims to provide contestable and discretionary community grants to local communities.

Our grants programme will be targeted towards supporting the following outcomes, as outlined in our local board plan:

• our heritage and environment is cherished and looked after
• open space that allows us to live
• active, connected and supported neighbourhoods
• facilities that enable community well-being
• increased opportunities for local new business development and economic growth
• easy safe and reliable journeys that reduce congestion

Projects funded

• Arts • Community • Environment • Events • Heritage • Sport and Recreation

Our funding priorities:
• activity that enhances good environmental outcomes
• local built and natural heritage is understood and respected and valued by all
• open spaces that encourage active recreation
• our area’s arts and culture is diverse, vibrant and well supported
• neighbourhoods and community-led initiatives are supported and encouraged
• our community has appropriate facilities that can be enjoyed by all
• activity that will create an innovation hub in the local board area
• public transport that is quick, convenient, reliable and affordable

Note: All applicants are expected to outline in their application how their project will contribute to at least one of the outcomes outlined in the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Plan.

Higher priority for eligibility:
• community match fund (groups who demonstrate that 40% of project costs have already been met)

Lower priorities for eligibility:
We will also consider applications for other services, projects, events and activities. However, these may be
considered a lower priority.

• events which clearly benefit the region rather than just the local area, and which can, therefore, apply for  regional or central government grants
• event management costs or wages for event organisers
• groups and/or activities taking place outside the local board area, unless the applicant can clearly demonstrate the benefit to local board members.
• catering
• commercial events or events that promote a brand or company.
• events that raise money for third party fundraising

Note:  Groups with no formal legal structure may apply for grants of up to $1,000 through the local board grants programme; however, the board expects to see evidence from the group indicating community support for the activity and its objectives.
