Eligible districts



Groups with no formal legal structure may apply for grants of up to $1,000 through the local board grants programme;
however, the board expects to see evidence from the group indicating community support for the activity and its objectives.

The Devonport - Takapuna Local Board welcomes grant applications that align with the following local board plan priorities:

Our Local Grants Programme aims to provide contestable and discretionary community grants to local communities.

Our grants programme will be targeted towards supporting the following outcomes, as outlined in our
Local Board plan:
• our heritage and environment is cherished and looked after
• open space that allows us to live
• active, connected and supported neighbourhoods
• facilities that enable community well - being
• increased opportunities for local new business development and economic growth
• easy safe and reliable journeys that reduce congestion

Projects funded

• activity that enhances good environmental outcomes
• local built and natural
heritage is understood and respected and valued by all
• open spaces that encourage active recreation
• our area’s arts and culture is diverse, vibrant and well supported
• neighbourhoods and community - led initiatives are supported and encouraged
• our community has appropriate facilities that can be enjoyed by all
• activity that will create an innovation hub in the local board area
• public transport that is quick, convenient, reliable and affordable.

Excluded projects

Activities we don't fund:
• debt servicing or repayment
• legal expenses
• activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes
• medical expenses
• public services that are the responsibility of central government (e.g. core education, primary health care)
• physical works (e.g. improvements to community buildings) that require consents or permits, prior to the necessary consents or permits being obtained (grants maybe awarded in principle, but funds will not be released until all conditions are satisfied)
• purchase of alcohol
• wages and salaries for ongoing administration
• catering
• commercial events or events that promote a brand or company
• events that raise money for third party fundraising
• retrospective costs, unless this is necessary as a condition of the grant, or the local board is satisfied that there are mitigating circumstances

Excluded activities

• groups which have failed to meet accountability obligations from previous Council grants will not be funded except in exceptional circumstance, and/or by stipulating that completing accountability is a condition of grant payment

Conditions of acceptance

The Devonport - Takapuna Local Board requires that all successful applicants provide:
• demonstration that the use of the funds matched their application.
• demonstration that the project or event has delivered set outcomes/objective (e.g. headcount, event photo, verification of attendance)
• a completed Accountability Form within one month of project completion
• the contribution of the local board is acknowledged in all publicity and signage
• any events funded or partially funded by the local board are to be smoke - free
