Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ) is the new name for the government organisation responsible for sport and recreation (formerly SPARC).


To assist sports clubs and schools teams with young people aged 5-19 who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.

How to apply

The next round of the Sport NZ/KiwiSport Rural Travel Fund is currently open and has been extended until 4.30pm 24 August 2020. 

There are two rounds of the Sport NZ/Kiwisport Rural Travel Fund per year, one in March and one in September. Applications forms will be available when these funding rounds are opened.

Information required with your application

Applications to the Fund must show travel funding used:
• for either more students to access current opportunities or for students who currently participate to access new opportunities;
• for either during school or out-of-school times;
• for either primary or secondary school aged students; and
• in partnership with a school or club.
