Outward Bound Classic Course Award


The Outward Bound Classic Course Award offers a personal development opportunity for a woman who is planning to return to education and / or training.


To apply for a Outward Bound Classic Course Award you must meet all the following eligibility criteria:
The applicant is a woman, who:
Is 18-26 years at  the time of appliying 
Is available during to attend a 21 day Outward Bound Classic Course-dates to be negotiated with awardee (scheduled monthly courses)
Can confidently run 3km in under 25 minutes and complete a full day’s activity
Is confident in water and comfortable putting  head underwater
Is willing to go smokefree at Outward Bound if normally a smoker
Is willing to fully disclose all medical and criminal histories
Has not previously received a NHWTHK Second-Chance Education Study Award or attended an Outward Bound Course


$4,350 + expenses


* NOTE: 
The $4350 Award covers the Outward Bound course fee. Travel expenses to Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds and costs associated with completing a medical assessment are also covered for the successful applicant.

When selecting awardees, the selection panel consider the following:

Education and/or training plans
Rationale for receiving the award
Personal circumstances

Decision makers

A panel made up of officers and trustees will consider all applications and provide decisions to the board of New Horizons for Women Trust for ratification.


Awards Advised: Mid June
Awards Made Mid: July to early August

Conditions of acceptance

Allow NHWT the use of your name, photograph and information about you (and if relevant other members of your group) for publicity purposes.
Receive the award at a NHWT award ceremony.
For second chance education awardees, provide a progress report to NHWT in the year you receive an award.
For research awardees, provide a progress report to NHWT each year of your study and provide access to your final reseach report and any subsequent publications.
Provide NHWT with up-to-date contact details while you are studying or undertaking research/carrying out your project.
