Cave Creek Student Memorial Scholarships
History of award
On 28 April 1995, a tragedy of national proportions happened in the Cave Creek area of the West Coast of the South Island. Thirteen students enrolled on Tai Poutini Polytechnic's Outdoor Recreation programme and one Department of Conservation Officer lost their lives when a viewing platform collapsed into a ravine. Four other students on the viewing platform survived the 30-metre fall.
To financially assist students enrolled in any full-time outdoor programme (Outdoor Recreation, Leadership and Guiding, or Ski Patrol) at Tai Poutini Polytechnic.
All students enrolled in, or preparing to enrol in, any full-time outdoor pursuits programme (Certificate in Outdoor Education Diploma in Outdoor Instruction and Guiding, or Certificate in Ski Patrol) at Tai Poutini Polytechnic are eligible to apply.

Dependent on funding available, but will be for a minimum of $500 per person.

It is a condition of the award that the names of scholarship winners are printed in West Coast newspapers. Photographs may be used in promotional material.
Board of Trustees.
Successful applicants will be advised as soon as possible after the closing date.
Conditions of acceptance
It is a condition of the award that scholarship winners must complete an outdoor recreation or equivalent programme at Tai Poutini Polytechnic; any withdrawal will result in the Polytechnic making such recommendations as are in accordance with its established financial and academic regulations.
