Toi Ohomai Howie Hinton Memorial Scholarship (Sport & Recreation)

History of award

Mr Howie Hinton was a dedicated and inspirational tutor of sport and recreation programmes at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic. This scholarship has been made available in his memory.

Purpose

The scholarship is open to Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology Tauranga campus Bachelor in Sport and Recreation students who are in their first year of study and will be enrolling in the second year
 

Eligibility

Open to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.

 

Number of awards

One per annum.

Value

$1,500 towards second year programme fees.

Tenure

One year.

Closing dates

Applications will close on Friday, 15 November 2019.

your career plans, your achievements to date
any community or sporting interests you have (or have had)
your personal strengths
how the Howie Hinton Memorial Scholarship may be critical to your success

Additional information

You will be required to submit the following with your application:
• a statement detailing your career plans, your achievements to date, any community or sporting interests you have (or have had), and your personal strengths.
• a statement of how the Howie Hinton Memorial Scholarship may be critical to your success.
 

Decision makers

The scholarship will be awarded to a student selected by the panel. The panel will consist of the Head of School, a Sport and Recreation tutor, and a Hinton family member.
 

Notification

The scholarship will be awarded to the successful student after the interview process.
 

Conditions of acceptance

• The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of a high level of commitment within the sport and recreation area of study. The financial needs of the applicant will also be a factor in deciding the recipient of the scholarship.
