Rural Women New Zealand Ruby Stokes Grant

History of award

Rural Women New Zealand Bursaries and Grants are available each year to assist with education, learning and personal development; for community projects and activities; the purchase of resources; and in times of natural disaster, all which benefits the rural community.


This is a grant for students whose study will benefit the wider community in addition to their personal development.


* Grants will be available to any person over 25 years of age
* the applicant will need to indicate the benefit of the study to the wider community as well as to their personal development.
* any short or long term courses offered by a recognised education provider is eligible
* preference will be given to those who live in smaller centres or rural areas of West Coast.

Number of awards

One Grant is awarded bi-annually.

How do students apply?

Application must be made on the official Rural Women New Zealand form, available from our website or from the contact details provided.

Your application must include the following:
* Two written references must be included (one must be a Rural Women New Zealand member).
* Proof of Acceptance of enrollment.
* Budget of course costs.

The application will be treated as confidential and subject to the provisions of the Privacy Act.

Decision makers

Applications are considered by the Rural Women New Zealand Bursary Committee appointed by the National Council of Rural Women New Zealand at the National Council meeting scheduled after receipt of the application.


The application will be acknowledged when it is received. You will be notified of the decision, which will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Conditions of acceptance

The committee reserves the right to later check with you on the outcome of the study.
