History of award

Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, Tauranga High Performance Academy Sports Scholarship Programme aims to provide support for students to achieve a high academic standard in a programme of their choice, whilst seeking excellence in their sporting code.
 

Purpose

Open to students participating in a sport that is recognised on the Sport New Zealand list of recognised national sports organisations
Existing scholarship students and Pathway to Podium athletes are encouraged to apply for 2017

Open to all current and prospective students of Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology
Open to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only

How do students apply?

The recipient will be selected based on their application clearly demonstrating:
• Academic achievement
• Meeting the entry criteria for the programme of choice
• Significant sporting achievement(s) to date and potential to further excel in their sporting code
• Leadership qualities
The applicant will also be required to provide a brief written supporting statement on why they would like the
opportunity to take up the study award as well as two written referee’s, one of which should be from their coach.
Attach evidence such as photocopies of exam results, reports, and references etc. to their application.

Additional information

In addition, recipients will be granted access to sport and fitness facilities at Te Pare a Ruahine, as well as access to a High Performance Manager for education, sporting and lifestyle support.
Successful students are also allocated ten hours per annum access to sports support services such as sports science, testing. They will also be given a High Performance Academy kit, consisting of track suit and t-shirt.
 

Decision makers

The scholarship will be awarded to students selected by the panel. The panel will consist of Toi Ohomai’s CEO, GroupLeader for Sport and Recreation, High Performance Academy Manager, Marketing & Communications Manager and a member of the wider Bay of Plenty sporting community.

Notification

Consideration of the suitability of applications will also be subject to Toi Ohomai's capability in conjunction with local agencies, to provide access to facilities and support appropriate to the applicant's chosen sport.

The selection panel considers all applications and may contact referees on a confidential basis
for further information.
• The selection panel may consult with representatives of the relevant sporting codes to assess the
standing of any achievements listed in the applications.
• The selection panel may, at its discretion, require the applicant to undertake an interview.

Conditions of acceptance

The applicant will be required to provide a brief written supporting statement on why they would like the opportunity to take up the study award, as well as two written references, one of which should be from their coach.
