Kiwisport

A Government funding initiative to promote sport for primary, intermediate and secondary school students.

KiwiSport provides funding to primary and intermediate school students (Year 1-8) and secondary school students (Year 9-13). Funding for this programme comes from Sport NZ and the Ministry of Education and is delivered through our regional sports trust partners.

What does it aim to do?

  • increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport
  • increase the availability and accessibility of sport opportunities for all school-aged children
  • support children to develop skills that enable them to participate confidently in sport.

Kiwisport review

The purpose of the review was to determine if the objectives of the Kiwisport RFP remain fit for purpose in light of Sport NZ's strategy from 2015 to 2019, and to see whether it aligns with the aims of Sport NZ’s Young People Plan and to help inform Sport NZ strategic investment decisions from July 2020.

The review was led by Tracey Diack (ex GM Sport Wellington) and involved people from all areas of our sector, with significant consultation involving 600 people from 400 organisations covering 44 different sports.

More than 20 different types of organisations including NSOs, RSOs, clubs, primary, secondary, tertiary, venues, TAs, health, recreation, private providers, RSTs and Charitable Trusts were consulted.
