Voice of Participant Research Report

2016 - 2023 report

A new research report based on the Voice of Participant (VoP) survey is out now. Conducted in collaboration with National Sport Organisations (NSOs), this survey collects valuable feedback from participants about their experiences, motivations, and challenges within their sports clubs.

The report compiles findings from 2016 up until April 2023, covering 23 different NSOs, with 17 organisations participating multiple times and includes feedback from around 250,000 individuals. The report also explores issues such as gender equality and sideline behaviour.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Positive Trends: Many sports have shown improvements in overall satisfaction, especially those that have participated multiple times.
  • Officials' Impact: There has been a significant improvement in the availability of qualified officials, though this remains one of the lowest-rated aspects of the club experience.
  • Focus on Development: Player development programs are identified as a crucial area for improvement, particularly for tamariki and rangatahi.

The full report is available on the Sport NZ website.
