Here are some of the play activities happening during Play Week.

Auckland Council

POP UP PLAY! Mt Roskill

We are all about creating safe spaces for the community to interact and play. Join us to play games such as multisport, capture the flag, ultimate Frisbee, lawn games, and many more. Brought to you by Pop Up Play, Out and About Auckland, and Puketāpapa Local Board.

Where: Molley Green Reserve, 47 Morrie Laing Avenue, Mt Roskill, Auckland

Date and time: Saturday, 5 November, 10.00am–1.00pm

Wild Streets Festival of Play – Bucklands Beach

Outdoor games and playful activities for all ages, young and old, from toddlers to teenagers – everyone can join in! Short and quick games, longer in-depth games and lots of pick up and play fun for kids and adults of all ages. We will have unicorns, bees, pirates, rubber chickens, dress up costumes and more! Bring along a picnic and make a day of it. We will also have sunscreen, water and a bit of shade for anyone who needs it – it can be hot out there so come prepared! Brought to you by The Open Fort, Out and About Auckland, and Howick Local Board.

Where: Rogers Park, 178 Clovelly Rd, Bucklands Beach, Auckland (look for us under the trees, near the walkway to the beach)

Stanhope Road School Play Festival – with Sport Auckland

In conjunction with Sport Auckland, join the fun at this community play festival – join in and try out giant games, loose parts, wheels, chalk, games, Taonga Tākaro, and play and kai stalls.

Where: Stanhope Road School, Auckland

Date and time: Friday, 11 November, 4.00-7.00pm

Sport Bay of Plenty

Inflatable Fun

Kids playing with the smaller inflatables and free entry for parents and caregivers getting in to play with their children. There’ll also be chalk drawings (hopscotch and other games) on the footpath on the way to the pools.

Where: Otumoetai Pool, 77 Windsor Road, Bellevue, Tauranga 3110

Date and time: 12 and 13 November 2022, 9.00am-5.00pm

Who can go: Children (paying) and parents. Parents and caregivers get in free if they’ll be swimming/playing with their children. There is a charge for spectators.

Sport Taranaki

Play Rocks!

Play Rocks! in the park is for whānau to come out and play in nature, while having some fun hunting for rocks. There’ll be opportunities for lots of play in the park along the way. Kids will love the excitement and buzz of finding a treasure and being able to trade it for an even more exciting awesome prize.

Where: Pukekura Park, 10 Fillis Street, New Plymouth Centra

Date and time: Saturday, 12th and Sunday, 13th November

Who can go: Open to everyone, especially families with young and primary school aged children

Sport Whanganui

Loose Parts Pop Up Play

Tyres, tubes, tarps and more! Tamariki can let their imaginations run wild with loose parts play. Sport Whanganui will set up a loose parts area at the Springvale Bike Park for an afternoon of community free play.

Sport Canterbury

The Imagination Playground: Build, play and create with big blue blocks.
An incredible play system made up of giant blocks in a multitude of shapes and sizes. Designed by a New York architect David Rockwell, it offers endless creative potential for children to play, build, dream and explore.

Where: The Christchurch Art Gallery

Date and time: 11- 12 November, 10.00am-4.00pm

Active Southland

“Chalk it up” #playfulAS

Active Southland is giving chalk to community organisations, businesses, hospices, social agencies, neighbourhoods, Splash Palace and Councils – Gore District Council, Invercargill City Council, He Waka Tuia Art + Museum, and libraries. Pick up some chalk and chalk it up!

Where: Splash Palace, South Alive, Councils, ILT Stadium Southland, local schools and early childhood education centres.

Community Play Event ILT Stadium Southland

Basketball Courts, Play Pods, kites outside, chalk Art, chalk mosaic, Clip n Climb

Where: ILT Stadium Southland

Date and time: Friday, 11 November, 3.30-5.30pm

Who can go: Community will be invited

Community Play Activation 

Opening Jump N Fun for an hour, providing kai and having a korero with members of the community facing barriers to play.

Where: JumpnFun, 53 Nith Street, Invercargill

Date and time: Wednesday, 9 November, 5.00-7.00pm

Who can go: Tamariki and whānau are invited

Sport Otago

Celebrate Play Week with Sport Otago!

Play activities, including our play trailer, libraries and lots of fun.

Where: Upper Octagon, Dunedin Central

Date and time: Friday, 11 November, 3.00pm-5.00pm

Who can go: Anyone from mums and bubs, toddlers and teachers, grandparents and go getters!
