Jim heads up the business unit that supports the sector to ensure more Kiwis, especially tamariki and rangatahi, are active through play, active recreation and sport. His unit includes Sport NZ’s Sport Development, Education, Play, Active Recreation and Priority Communities teams. He also has responsibility for several funds, including Tū Manawa, Regional Sports Directors and the Rural Travel Fund. 

Originally from Bristol in the UK, Jim joined Sport New Zealand in September 2014 where he held the role of Manager, Expertise and Capability until taking on the new role of Group Manager Play, Active Recreation and Sport in June 2022.  

He has a wealth of experience from previous sport administration roles, including 7 years as CEO of Equestrian Sports NZ and as Executive Director at University Sport New Zealand. Before that he held a range of university and tertiary sport roles in the UK.  

Jim has a lifelong passion for his hometown teams: the Bristol Rovers, Bristol Bears and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, and has added the LA Rams more recently.
