Play principle 1

Video transcript

[Sport and Recreation Programmes Manager: Mark Curr speaking]

The first play principle is that play is important to the well-being of New Zealanders.

I think that the more our kids play, the more likely they are to be physically literate. The more control of their bodies they have. The more likely they are to have a lifelong love of sport and being active.

I think of my little boy and how in the previous home of ours we had a tall concrete drop. He quickly learned that was danger and we think that set him up - he's not the boy that chips his tooth in the playground.
