Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2024

09 July 2024

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an exciting event on our national calendar – and this year it’s back and better than ever!

Te Wiki is all about enhancing the status of te reo Māori, the first language of Aotearoa, and encouraging all New Zealanders to both learn and use te reo Māori – whether you know a little or a lot!

We want to see schools, kura, sports clubs and community groups from all over the country come together to celebrate te reo Māori.

In the coming weeks Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori will be launching the national Te Wiki 2024 campaign and there are plenty of exciting new initiatives including a new speech competition – Waha Kōrero.

Waha Kōrero is an impromptu speech competition for adults over 18 of all genders, Māori and non-Māori who are proficient speakers of te reo.
