Tyla King

Tyla King (née Nathan-Wong), of Ngāpuhi descent, is a proud wahine Māori and 5-sport international athlete, having represented Aotearoa in Rugby 7s, Rugby League, Rugby 15s, Touch and Tag.

She has rediscovered her whakapapa through sport, which has shaped her commitment to uplifting wāhine Māori and embedding tikanga and whanaungatanga within elite sporting environments.

Tyla has earned Olympic, Commonwealth, World Cup and World Series medals and held leadership roles both on and off the field. Her governance and advocacy work includes collaborations with national sporting bodies and major sponsors, where she brings a unique athlete voice and cultural understanding to decision making tables.

She is passionate about athlete wellbeing and is currently undertaking postgraduate research into concussion perceptions and mental health in elite female athletes.
