Media Coverage of Women’s Sport

Reports

Sport NZ is proud to publish the third annual report from the Sport NZ-Isentia study of gender balance in sports news coverage, which covers the 2022 period.

2022 was another year of positive change that reflects dedicated efforts being made by media, broadcasters, sports, athletes and others to improve the visibility of female athletes and teams in sports news media.

The first report was published in April 2021 and covers 14 months from July 2019 to December 2020 (excluding March to June 2020, where the study was paused due to COVID-19). A mid-year infographic (1 January to 30 June 2021) was then published in October 2021, with the second full report published in July 2022.

Additional case studies are being published over the life of the study.
