What you can do
You're a huge influencer on your tamariki and rangatahi's involvement and enjoyment in play, active recreation and sport. We've got resources to help you ensure your child's participation is fun and long-lasting.

It begins with the joy babies, toddlers and children experience through play and the opportunities they receive to move freely in their environment guided by natural instinct. As the child grows, the learning in physical education (PE) becomes a crucial component of their physical literacy development (play and PE are the foundation of physical literacy). Developing a lifelong love in physical activity is also influenced by the positive experience they receive in organised sport and active recreation.

If you're a parent involved in youth sport, we recommend that you explore the Balance is Better website which offers advice on how to support your child and ensure they develop their skills at the right pace.
