Active NZ has been running in one form or another since 1997. Since 2017, we survey a sample of New Zealanders registered on the electoral roll every month through our research partner, Verian.

This report is an up-to-date snapshot of the 2023 New Zealand play, active recreation and sport landscape for New Zealanders aged 5-plus. Drawn from the Active NZ survey, it uses data collected during 2023 from 5,890 young people and 15,836 adults. Selected results are explored through the lenses of age, gender, ethnicity, deprivation and disability.
