The combined value of sport and active recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand

Our latest research shows that sport and active recreation provide major social and economic benefits for Aotearoa.

We have measured both the direct economic of the sector and the less visible but powerful social benefits, like stronger communities and improved individual wellbeing.

This research is part of a work programme to:

  • advocate for the benefits of play, active recreation and sport
  • show the return on investment in the play, active recreation and sport system
  • support learning and guide future decisions for Sport NZ and the sector.
