How do I get funding for a community activity or event?
Here are two main funds you can apply for:
- Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa: Supports local projects that help tamariki and rangatahi get active. This is managed by your Regional Sports Trust.
- Rural Travel Fund: Helps cover travel costs for junior sports teams (ages 5–19) in rural areas so they can join local competitions
Your Regional Sports Trust may also have regional funding options additional to these funds.We also have a directory of awards, grants, scholarships and other external funding sources available to search here.
If your group is eligible, we encourage you to apply and make the most of these opportunities.

Can I become a Sport NZ partner or get funding?
Sport NZ invests with organisations that help increase physical activity for tamariki and rangatahi.
Our current funding cycle runs from 2024 to 2028 and all partnership funding has been allocated for this period.

How do I list my activity in the Sport NZ directory?
Please note that only national organisations are listed in this directory and being listed is not formal recognition or endorsement from Sport NZ.
To add or update a listing, please send us the following details:
- Organisation name
- Location
- Contact email or phone
- Website address
Our team will review and approve the information before it goes live. -
How do I apply for Sport NZ recognition status?
Only national sports organisations are eligible to apply for recognition status from Sport NZ, which confirms them as the peak body for their sporting code in New Zealand.

How do I get help on a sport or recreation integrity matter?
In an emergency:
- If anyone is in immediate danger or you want to report a crime, contact the police on 111.
- If you are worried about a child and want to report a concern, contact Oranga Tamariki on 0508 326 459.
For other matters:In the first instance, refer to the complaints process offered within your club, regional sport organisation or national body. If you remain concerned, are not satisfied with the way your complaint has been managed, or don’t feel your complaint will be handled independently, then contact the Sport Integrity Commission.
The Sport Integrity Commission is an independent, free service set up in 2024 to help keep sport and recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand safe and fair.

What is an integrity matter?
Integrity matters include:
- bullying, abuse, violence, harassment, intimidation, and sexual misconduct
- failing to keep children safe
- racism and other types of discrimination
- match-fixing,
- doping, and
- corruption, fraud, and other dishonest conduct.
They can relate to an individual(s) or an organisation.
