It is with sadness that we advise and acknowledge the passing of a great Ngāti Whakaue rangatira Pihopa Kingi.

Kua hinga te totara o te Wao nui a Tane. It is with sadness that we advise and acknowledge the passing of a great Ngāti Whakaue rangatira Pihopa Kingi. Pihopa was a founding member of the Roopu Manaaki, the Sport NZ Māori Advisory Group that gave guidance and support to the Sport NZ initiative He Oranga Poutama, we were very privileged to have such wisdom on our Roopu.

Sport NZ Senior Advisor Māori Participation Moana-Lee Raihania will be attending the tangihanga today on behalf of our organisation. She takes with her our condolences and respects to the Whānau pani and Te Arawa Iwi. 

No reira haere atu ra e te rangatira, haere, haere oki oki ai. 

Translation:

A great chief has fallen. It is with sadness that we advise and acknowledge the passing of a great Ngāti Whakaue chief Bishop Kingi. Bishop was a founding member of the Roopu Manaaki, the Sport New Zealand Māori Advisory Group that gave guidance and support to the Sport New Zealand initiative He Oranga Poutama, we were very privileged to have such wisdom on our Roopu.

Sport NZ Senior Advisor Māori Participation Moana-Lee Raihania will be attending the funeral today on behalf of our organisation, she takes with her our condolences and respects to the family and Te Arawa Tribe.
