Special Sector Update: Our new Board Chair and Deputy Chair

Special Sector Update: Our new Board Chair and Deputy Chair

12 July 2023

Kia ora tatou,

I wanted to share some news with you all regarding recent changes on our Sport NZ and HPSNZ Boards.

Our current Chair of both Boards, Bill Moran, stepped down from the Chair role on 30 June 2023 having served on the Boards for almost seven years, with five of these as Chair.

In this time, Bill has been a stalwart for the Board, steering the sector and leading both organisations through some difficult challenges as well as supporting positive change and strategic direction for both Sport NZ and HPSNZ.

Bill will remain as a member of the Boards for the next 12 months and I want to thank Bill for everything he has done as Chair for our Group.

As you may have seen today, the Minister of Sport and Recreation announced that Raewyn Lovett has been appointed Chair of both the Sport NZ and HPSNZ Boards.

Many of you will know Raewyn who has served the Boards for five years and has excellent experience as a commercial lawyer and in a variety of governance roles in the sport and not-for-profit sectors. Duane Kale has taken on the Deputy Chair role on both Boards. Duane brings with him plenty of governance experience, notably 11 years as a Board member of Paralympics New Zealand as well as an athlete voice perspective from his time as a Paralympian.

I’m looking forward to continuing to work closely with our Board which will continue to have great leadership through Raewyn and Duane.

You can read both Raewyn and Duane’s bios on the Sport NZ website here.

Nga mihi,
Raelene
