Increasing community access to schools toolkit

The Increasing Community Access to Schools Toolkit supports schools to open their sport and recreation facilities to their communities. It provides clear guidance, along with practical tools and templates, to help schools share their spaces with confidence.

The toolkit has been developed in partnership by Aktive, Nuku Ora, Sport NZ and College Sport Wellington, with input from education experts, Recreation Aotearoa and the Ministry of Education. It draws on New Zealand and international examples of good practice.

It includes practical resources such as a risk register, booking templates and case studies to support schools to open their facilities and build stronger connections with their communities. The toolkit also outlines the potential benefits for schools, including opportunities to access new income and funding streams, and showcases schools already leading the way through successful school-community partnerships.
