Proposed Mt Roskill Artificial Turf social value report

This report looks at the forecast social value of the proposed Mt Roskill Community Artificial Turf in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. It explores how a reliable, year-round playing surface could benefit local schools, sports clubs and community groups by reducing cancellations and creating more opportunities for people to play, train and connect.

The report uses Social Return on Investment (SROI) to estimate the wider community value the proposed facility could create for every $1 invested. This includes increased participation, improved wellbeing, stronger social connections, youth development and volunteer contribution.

The preferred fourth-generation artificial turf option is forecast to benefit 3,647 people and create $6.16 in social value for every $1 invested. The report also considers a third-generation turf option, which is forecast to create $4.85 in social value for every $1 invested. These results reflect the different levels of weekly use modelled for each surface.

The findings are forecast estimates rather than guaranteed outcomes. They are designed to support planning and investment decisions alongside other information, including demand, feasibility, governance, ongoing costs and local priorities.
