Te Ngaengae Pool and Fitness is New Zealand’s first aquatic facility to achieve a 5 Green Star rating.
This case study compares different sustainability approaches for aquatic facilities, including Green Star and Passive House, alongside a typical building design. While Passive House was explored but not used in the final build, the modelling showed the value of a whole‑of‑life approach.
The analysis highlights how a small increase in upfront construction cost can lead to significant long‑term savings and lower environmental impact over the life of the facility.
