Data and insights specific to your sport or activity
Where to find them
Active NZ
Active NZ is Sport NZ’s nationwide survey that captures how people aged 5 and over get active. There are 2 ways to look at the Active NZ data:
-
Go to the Active NZ annual data tables (found at the bottom of each Active NZ report page) for data from the most recent survey as well as year on year trends dating back to 2017 where questions have remained the same. You can find data specific to each question by different sub-groups (for example, by age or gender). You can also see how results across regions vary.
-
You can also look at the profiles of participants, including who is most likely to participate in your sport or activity.
Find the data tables at the bottom of each Active NZ report page.
Insights tool
The Insights tool maps data from various sources to small sub-areas throughout New Zealand based on the demographic make-up of that area. You can see demographics, activity behaviours and trends, health trends and school data relating to our region or subregion. Data can be viewed by city/district, regional sports trust and local board (Auckland only) filters.
School Sport Census
Here you can explore data on secondary school sport—participation and teacher involvement by sport and region across Aotearoa.
Voice of participant
Voice of Participant looks at the club experience from a participant experience. The survey explores what contributes to a positive club experience and highlights key areas for improvement.
You can access results from the latest combined national sport view, which provides a national picture of the sport participation experience. While the national report does not reference individual sports, each participating National Sports Organisation receives a tailored report. These include:
- full results from all survey questions
- year-on-year comparisons (where available)
- benchmarking against the average results from other participating sports
To access these reports, please contact your National Sports Organisation directly.
